I had my initial 1-2-1 with my tutor Michelle Sank earlier today. We had a brief 30 minute chat about the module and what direction I’d like to go in. I showed her the WIP and Statement of Intent from the Sustainable Strategies module which she was familiar with as she 2nd marked it, and also showed some additional portrait work of someone who is non-verbal and autistic that I’d done in the module break. We also looked at some of the horse racing photos I’ve been putting together for a zine.
Some of her main points were:
- try not to repeat the work from the last module (I’m quite aware of this – if I continue with the series that I’d started with Brunswick then how do I differentiate it? Do I focus around one person?
- find a subject matter or thing that with stretch me in this module
- Look at what am I trying to say / what would I like to make / what am I passionate about?
- go to as many webinars as possible even if you’re not sure what you’re doing – just bring some ideas if you can
Suggestions to look at:
Karren Visser – I talked about looking at perspective and perception and Michelle pointed me towards a visually impaired photographer who works with the British Council and others like VocalEyes on projects about sight. Her work Sight Lines also looks at accessibility which was one of the things I looked at in my previous WIP.
I also want to keep working on my portraiture being more direct and involved so Michelle suggested I look at Jenny Lewis‘s work.
For community work she said to give the Multistory site a thorough look for inspiration.
